Experiential Learning Teacher for High School Level Boys

Program: EmpowerOne Academy

Degree in education, as well as a certificate in a related field. Teaching credentials are mandatory. Experience with students with learning differences and ADHD is a plus. Our ideal candidate is an outgoing, well-organized individual who is eager to work in a highly dynamic, energetic school setting who values experiential learning Subject matter knowledge in area of expertise must be solid; candidate must be prepared to teach, counsel and tutor material at a middle and/or high school level immediately. EmpowerOne Academy caters to boys grades 6-12, we offer an integrated experiential learning approach for overactive, curious minds. We have a very small student to teacher ratio, and teacher must be comfortable working in a diverse cultural environment and be able to have the knowledge of prescribed curriculum and student development; ability to communicate effectively using written and oral communication skills; knowledge of current research; basic knowledge of technology; planning and organizational skills; ability to manage the group and supervise students; skill in analyzing, diagnosing and evaluating student progress and programs; knowledge of varied learning styles; ability to use effective, positive interpersonal skills. Commitment to a core set of beliefs about teaching, learning, and ongoing professional development. Teacher is expected to provide an appropriate educational atmosphere which encourages positive student learning and to participate in a dynamic setting with other classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists and other staff members in the development and implementation of the school’s programs and goals. Teacher must be willing to travel with group on field trips. Job functions and activities requires a male teacher.

Special Education Teacher (Middle & High School)

In addition to the qualifications of our Middle and High School teachers, our Special Education teacher holds a Master’s degree in education or psychology as well as a certificate in special education, educational therapy, or similar background. Teaching credentials are a plus but are not mandatory.

Our school psychologist specializes in ADHD behavioral issues and holds a degree in psychology. The psychologist is experienced in evaluation, consultation, individual and/or group counseling. and the development of any Intervention plans.


Tutor Openings

ILIA is seeking tutors for its leadership-based tutoring program, Mission Excellence, for students’ grades 1-12 as well as college students in Engineering and Business disciplines. Our tutors specialize in subjects such as Math, Science, Social Studies/ History, English, Arabic Language, and Quran memorization and tajweed. Mission Excellence is not simply another tutoring program, it is an Islamic leadership-based program which focusing on the characteristics, styles each student. Service is offered to gifted and talented students, on-grade, as well as academically challenged students, as well as special services for students with learning disabilities including adults inshaa Allah. Tutors are sought for ILIA’s two types of tutoring, one-on-one, as well as group sessions. The sessions are offered throughout the greater DC region as well as at our training facility in Ellicott City. We have partnerships with local schools therefore some sessions may be offered at school sites. The hours of operation are decided between the program administrator, student, parent, and tutor. ILIA provides regular training and development to its tutors and provides a competitive working environment.



•           Ages 16 & above.

•           Some tutoring roles require a college degree or graduate degree, and specializations in certain domains.

•           If you are a current student you must have and maintain a GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 & above.

•           Ability to drive or have means for transportation

•           Excellent experience working with youth in an academic environment, as well as outside the classroom.

•           Solid knowledge and practice of Islamic creed, values and principles and leadership styles and traits

•           Must be responsible and have a flexible schedule.

•           Bilingual tutors are desired but not required.

ILIA is seeking part time instructors and faculty members to teach various Islamic leadership and management courses. Responsibilities include preparing course syllabus, notes, tests and grading student submissions.

•           Experience in developing curriculum, syllabus and lesson plans.

Youth/Teen Program Coordinator

This position requires an ability to quickly switch between tasks. Multiple programs are coordinated by this person. These programs include leadership programs for campers in grades 3-12 and teen travel programs for campers in grades 5-12.
Leads youth camps and activities. This staff member will implement training, programming, and leadership opportunities for the teens in the various ILIA programs. In addition, the coordinator will lead our teen travel programs and ensure the safety of all campers at each destination. Responsibilities include designing and implementing programs and activities for each day of camp and communicating with outside vendors and parents.


  • 21 years of age or older.
  • AA degree or 2 years of college in a field related to child development, psychology, nursing, pre-med, education, hospitality, EMT, nursing, communications or related field.
  • Current and valid driver’s license, with no traffic violations in the past 3 years.
  • 2 years experience working with teens required (no less than 1000 hrs)
  • Passionate about working with teens and pre-teens.
  • Experience with staff supervision, program planning for teens and working with teens.
  • Basic First Aid, Adult and Child CPR with AED certified or ability to obtain upon employment.
  • Past experience working in a camp setting preferred.
  • Lifeguard certification is a plus.• Knowledge of Islamic principles and values.
  • Self-motivator, independent leader, team player, open to learn and excellent communication skills with young people

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Implement and facilitate camp programs for teens grades 5-12.
• Maintain a physically and emotionally safe teen camp and event environment.
• Resolve any conflicts that arise within the group.
• Assist in creating leadership program curriculum.
• Implement and develop programming, training and activities for leadership program participants.
• Develop learning and observation opportunities for leadership program participants with camp staff.
• Provide training and support to leadership program participants in working with children in a camp setting.
• Other duties as required.

Grants Writer Opening

Job Listing: Research funding sources for eligible ILIA programs and projects; coordinate research; write and submit grant proposals. Develop needed partnerships, conduct public outreach and education activities regarding grant funded projects. Must understand grant compliance for public and private grantors. Must communicate effectively and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs with outstanding writing communication and presentation skills.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for ILIA’s mission and a highly motivated, self-initiated professional with at least a Bachelor’s degree in related field (Masters a plus). Comparable amounts of skill and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of seven years experience, at least 3 those years in the grants profession in research, writing, filing applications, evaluation, project management, reporting, and public outreach/relations. Must be able to work independently but take direction and ask questions. Evidence of working under tight deadlines, in a fast paced environment and under pressure required. Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain relationships and build new ones with funders and foundations.
