IDY001: Preserving a Nation’s Identity


This outdoor class covers the basic definitions of an ummah from the Quran and allows students an opportunity to become familiar with challenges and opportunities presented to past nations. Case studies include the Jews of Europe and the Muslims of North America during the 20th and 14th -19th centruries respectively.

Students will learn

  • Basic definition of ummah in Islam
  • Heritage of American Muslims
  • Struggles of Muslims in America and Jews in Europe
  • Lessons from the Holocaust and eradication of Muslim Indians in America
  • Key elements that comprises the identity of an ummah
  • Cornerstones to preserve one’s identity

Inshaa Allah the Schedule:

1:00- 1:15pm: arrive at dar- us salaam

1:15- 1-30: duhr prayer and quick chat

1:30-2:30: drive to museum

3:00-5:00 tour the museum

5:00 – 5:30 outdoor talk

5:30 – 6:00 drive to second museum

6:30 –  7:30 tour second museum

7:30- Iftar chill and realx get ready for iftar
