A two-day long workshop to teach leadership styles and attributes for the community leaders and professionals consisting of classroom activities, interactive sessions, and group building projects. In general, it will help develop confident, competent supervisors/managers who inspire and motivate employees and build high performing teams. It will also introduce core leadership skills to meet specific leadership challenges and to prepare and achieve results by leading others. This unique course will enable participants perceive the uniqueness of leadership roles and guide them into acquiring and honing the tactics and strategies of good leaders.

The class will
• Help understand the participants how to build and what to look for in forming a successful and motivated team
• Teach participants problem solving, critical analysis and decision making.
• Teach the significance of situational awareness in leading people and attaining desired goals
• Help differentiate between a leader and a manager
• Enable participants to make effective communication and provide feedback – a two way communication: Understood and understand
• Teach the significance of learning agility and influencing others

Brief Outline:
• Situational Leadership and Johari windows (what we do is a reflection of what we know).
• Group Development “La Coursiere’s” model & Maslow’s hierarchy of need.
• Team Building, Problem solving, brainstorming, and decision making process
• Leadership and management, Focuses on self-awareness, Effective communication and feedback
• Learning agility and influence
• Addresses challenges of individual contributors
Objectives:

Prerequisites:
Suitable for mid-level managers or emerging leaders, however, fresh college graduates may find this course rewarding and challenging.

Instructor:
Dr. Mostafiz Chowdhury has an active interest in leadership development and training and has made public presentations on leadership, effective communication, and creative problem solving. His interests and skills include diversity, leadership traits and styles, creative problem solving and team effectiveness. He has created and conducted workshops aimed at strengthening leadership capabilities, enhancing self-awareness, building high-performance teams and leading under pressure. Dr. Chowdhury received his PhD in Structural Engineering from University of Cincinnati and taught in various capacities in multiple universities in the US. He taught Construction Project Managements and Industrial Technology in East Carolina University. He is a professional engineer, researcher, and an experienced leader. Dr. Chowdhury has vast experience in high profile strategic program management and planning with a broad R&D Management and oversight experience. He is actively involved in the community in coordinating and managing youth leadership enhancement programs in the DC Metropolitan area.
